Function<\/b><\/p>\n

The incumbent will provide casework management in accordance with the National Standards set out by Big Brothers Big Sisters of Canada. She\/he will be responsible for matching volunteer mentors with children and youth, and for monitoring those matches to ensure the healthy development of the relationships.<\/p>\n

The Mentoring Coordinator will work within the guidelines, policies and mission of the Agency and will be accountable and responsible for specific projects as assigned.<\/p>\n

Primary Responsibilities<\/b><\/p>\n

    \n
  • accept and document applications of potential volunteers and clients (including parent, guardian, child, youth, etc.)<\/li>\n
  • manage intake of children and volunteers, including orientation, interviewing, screening etc.<\/li>\n
  • conduct reference checks of potential volunteers<\/li>\n
  • inform volunteers of their acceptance or rejection<\/li>\n
  • inform families of the reasons for the denial of service or for the closing of an application or referral<\/li>\n
  • contact schools or other involved social service agencies as appropriate for assessment input<\/li>\n
  • conduct the Pre-Match Training program with Mentors, Mentees and parents\/guardians<\/li>\n
  • maintain case notes on all cases in accordance with the National Standards<\/li>\n
  • facilitate the match closure process for Mentor, Mentee and parent\/guardian<\/li>\n
  • provide regular reports to the Executive Director, or special reports as requested<\/li>\n
  • maintain strict confidentiality as outlined in the agency’s Privacy and Confidentiality Policy<\/li>\n
  • ensure all mentees, parents\/guardians and Mentors are informed of any pertinent agency information such as group programs, change of policy, change of address etc.<\/li>\n
  • perform administrative functions as required to manage caseload<\/li>\n
  • make referrals to other agencies as warranted<\/li>\n
  • participate in committees as required<\/li>\n
  • liaise with schools, other youth service agencies, other community groups, clubs or the public in general as required<\/li>\n
  • assist with recreation events as required<\/li>\n
  • complete a yearly performance appraisal, including goals and objectives for the coming year<\/li>\n
  • remain aware of federal and provincial privacy legislation and the agency\u2019s privacy policies and practices<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

    Qualifications<\/b><\/p>\n

    In accordance with Big Brothers Big Sisters of Canada\u2019s National Standards, all Mentoring Coordinators must:<\/p>\n

    \u201cHave a two-year post-secondary diploma in a related field (e.g. education, social or human services, child and youth work, family studies, etc.) or equivalent qualifications.<\/p>\n

    In addition to this, the agency may require the incumbent to have:<\/p>\n

      \n
    • effective oral and written communication skills<\/li>\n
    • strong problem-solving skills<\/li>\n
    • ability to interact with people of all ages and cultural backgrounds<\/li>\n
    • ability to work independently and as part of a team<\/li>\n
    • sound computer skills<\/li>\n
    • ability to work flexible hours<\/li>\n
    • access to a vehicle<\/li>\n
    • bilingualism is an asset<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

      Conditions of Employment<\/b><\/p>\n

      Salary: $40,000-$47,500 (35 hours per week)<\/p>\n

      • Full-time employees entitled to 2 weeks\u2019 vacation.<\/li>\n
      • Up to 5% RRSP contribution match after one year of service<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
